I have some facts from studies in archives.
- Some sources claim that before First World War, there used gas during attacks. We rely solely on the First World War. The first gas attack during the First World War were not as generally written at Ypres on 22, 23 and April 24, 1915 and not at Neuve Chapelle in France on October 27, 1914 by the Germans, but by the French on August 23, 1914. They were the first to use gas by 26 mm grenades filled with tear gas (Ethyl bromoacetate). Around 19 cc each cartridge. The stocks were consumed quickly and in November a new order made by the French army. But Ethyl bromoacetate was scarce among the Entente that was changed to ethyl bromoacetate Chlorine Acetone. This attack was not a successful attack. The first German attack took place at Neuve Chapelle on October 27, 1914. They had experimented with a shrapnel grenade by to smear musket balls from the grenade with a substance tear gas. After the explosion, released the gas, which was liquid, a gas cloud forms and if the enemy temporarily blinded. That was a fiasco. This attack was not a successful attack. On January 31, 1915, the Germans used gas again at the Battle of Bolimów, against the Russians who were located next to the railroad Łódź - Warsaw. More than 18,000 artillery shells with liquid xylyl bromide tear gas were fired at the Russian lines. But the gas drifted back to own lines and let the gas freezing cold so it proved to be inefficient. The gas attack claimed few victims and the attack was called off by August von Mackensen. On February 14, 1915 examined the Flemish doctor Joseph De Cuyper, six soldiers of the Belgian 1th Army Division, which raced and vomiting after a German bombardment in Ramskapelle in Belgium. In his report he referred that the Germans had used as a gas attack. In March of that year used the German troops at Nieuwpoort in Belgium again gas grenades against British troops. After several failed tests by the Germans, they developed a system with gas cylinders. On April 16, 1915 were unusual activities spotted by te Entente in the line sof the German XXVI Reserve Corps that called. The German have place cylinders. Om 22 april 1915, the Germans use this weapon. 5730 bottles with a total volume of 168 tons were opened. Like many history books describe, April 22, 1915 was not the first gas attack. But April 22, 1915 was the first successful gas attack, the first gas attack in the Ypres Salient and the first gas attack which Chloorine was used against British troops (Canadians).
- Another mistake is Mustardgas. This was also mentioned by many history books as the first commitment in the Ypres Salient. Therefore the name Yprite. Mustard gas was first deployed in Nieuwpoort against the Belgians as a test in conjunction with Blaukreuz and chlorine, two days before the first major effort during the Third Battle of Ypres or the Battle of Passchendaele, on July 12, 1917.
- More later........
